{Blog This} Can you do without?

Challenge 16 at Blog This
Have you ever had to give anything up that was difficult?

Over the past year I have reluctantly given up many things. Chocolate. Ice Cream. Cheese. Before we went away earlier this year I also gave up sugar and white flour. I felt fantastic. I looked fantastic. The dark circles under my eyes vanished, my skin glowed. The one thing I could not - would not - give up was coffee. No way, uh-uh. I can't start the day without my skinnyflatwhiteonesugar. Even though it's big, noisy and ugly, I love my old Saeco Magic. Merlo beans.

Paris shocked me. My visions of sitting and sipping while watching Parisian life go by were shattered. Bitter beans, burnt milk. Filthy looks when I requested a cafe au lait. After 4 days trying to stomach the espresso with a dash, I gave up and resorted to tea.

My first request when we returned home? Please honey, could you make me a coffee?

Oh, and the no sugar, no white flour lasted until we got on the plane!

  1. Yes, for all the talent they have in the patisserie, they are seriously lacking in the cafe! I thought the same thing about the coffee in Paris... luckily Italy more than made up for that!

  2. I really want to give up the white sugar and flour. I've done it before, and it's SO good! I felt so healthy!!

Shame about the coffee in Paris! I would have imagined it to be perfect as well!

  4. You know, I would never have thought that Parisian cafes were like that. I pretty much thought it would be as you described your idea of Paris before you actually went there.

I'd be begging for coffee too the minute I got home!
